| Super Borovets Project | |||
| Introduction The Super Borovets is part of the government of Bulgaria's aim to make Borovets a truly world class all year round resort less than one hour from the capital, Sofia. Ultimately around 150km of piste are expected and the expansion of the current ski resort of Borovets and turn it into an all year round mountain resort. With ecological and strategic objectives at the top of priorities so that there is guaranteed protection for the beautiful forests and surrounding national park. The existing facilities will be improved and vastly expanded. Currently Borovets has 58 km of pistes. This will be extended by 100km creating a huge ski domain. This prestigious EUR 566M project has been award a class A investor status by the Bulgarian government. The Project Detail Equest Balkan plc (a UK listed investment fund) and the State Fund of Oman are the shareholders. These high profile investors with international experience of managing large scale investment projects will ensure not only money but that the project will be completed to strict timetables. This is the largest resort investment in Bulgaria and will help to ensure that the Super Borovets project, the Borovets area and Borovets property are most profitable and secure place to invest in Bulgaria. Borovets property prices are still low in comparison to some other areas and this area is set to boom in the coming years. The project was officially started on 8th October 2007 and is expected to be completely ready by 2012. Over five years Borovets will be turned into a modern ski area with world-class ski slopes and become the premier ski resort in Eastern Europe attracting tourists from all over Europe. The master plan for the project has already been approved and financing is in place to commence the project. Two new villages will be created under the plans and linked via gondolas to the overall Borovets ski domain. Zone I - Lower Borovets A new tourist village will be created just outside Samokov town. This will be located at 1000m and a new 10km gondola will transport skiers to the Yastrebets and Markudijik ski areas. Several family hotels and holiday villages will offer a wide variety of accommodation and leisure facilities and also an 18-hole golf course. There will be a snow stadium and a covered piste. In these areas there will be large parking spaces and numerous entertainment centers.
Zone II - Upper Borovets - VIP Zone In the areas Shumnatitsa/Bialata Poliana (1400m) and Gvardeiska Poliana/Mecha Glava (1600m) new luxury hotels and ski chalets will be built. In these areas, village and eco tourism will be encouraged. Tradition mehana's (tavern restaurants), horse riding centre, and riverside parks are all part of the plans. In the Bialata Poliana area there will be a spectacular 18-hole mountain golf course overlooking the beautiful Rila Mountains and a gondola linking the area to the Borovets ski domain. As this area is high in the mountains every effort will be made to ensure the development is eco-friendly and sustainable. Summary Borovets is set to dramatically change over the next 5 years. Property prices in prime locations are already rising and as the work continues this will attract more and more investor interest from around the world. The project will aim to offer diverse attractions to the tourists, including not only the natural resources, but also the historical and cultural monuments and places of interest. The region of Borovets will become a year-round resort with modern technical facilities, high tech information centre for tourists and a good transportation infrastructure. Special attention will be paid to the development of sustainable ecotourism encouraging hill walkers, extreme sports enthusiasts, horse riding trails, as well as hunting and fishing. Employment in the hotels, the maintenance of the equipment and the ski schools for sport and tourism will give work to over 10,000 people. > back ^ top |
