| Sapareva Banya is situated in Southwestern Bulgaria at 750 m. above the sea level on the Northern slope of Rila Mountain less than one hour from Sofia. Its territory is 180.8 square km and has a population of 9,000 people. The municipality contains many popular tourist destinations and Panichishte Resort, one of the fastest growing tourist centers in Bulgaria like Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo. Sapareva Banya is known for its cool, clean mountain water, it is famous for its unique geothermal mineral water. Here one finds the hottest mineral water in all of Europe (103 degrees C) and the only active Geyser in the Balkans. The town is only 70 km. from the capital of Bulgaria and 30 km from the famous ski center Borovets. You can reach Sapareva Banya and Panichishte resort very easily by international roads E-79 or E-80, and future projects include a plan for a charter and low cost airlines airport in the valley of Sapareva Banya. The area is unspoilt and unique and is particularly well known for the Seven Rila Lakes, high mountains, peaceful and relaxing places, waterfalls and natural forests full of wild life. Panichishte resort is a starting point for many tourist hiking routes including the European E-4. The district is just an hour and a half from the Greek border to the south and is set to rapidly grow as a year round international tourist and holiday destination. |

| For latest news go to www.saparevabanya.org March 2006: The following report was issued in the Sofia press: "..Rila Sport, the firm which will take major part in the investment expenses and which is representing the still anonymous Austrians and Italians, has already bought 200 decares of land from Sapareva Banya municipality. In five years it is going to build hotel complexes with at least 4,000 beds. The firm also bought the rights for one of the ski pistes in the complex and plans to equip it with a modern lift. 14 super modern alpine pistes with a capacity of 4,500 skiers, are planned to be built, together with a cabin lift from Sapareva Banya to Panichishte, which probably will reach Kabul peak. It is situated very close to the famous Seven Rila lakes." April 2007: Sewerage pipes have started to go in up the mountain from just outside Sapareva Banya and a new hotel complex is expected to start construction in September. A consortium between two huge firms from Austria and Italy, which prefer to stay anonymous for now, will invest over 100 million euro for the construction of a new winter resort, which is supposed to compete with Borovets, Pamporovo and Bansko. May 2007: New road to Sapareva Banya from main Dupnitsa to Samakov road is complete. June 2007: A new Aqua Park is planned in the foothills of Sapareva Banya believed to have been proposed by a large investor. Outline plans for a golf course are drawn up. July 2007: Jet2Let due to launch first new off plan development "Olympia Ski and Spa" in Sapareva Banya. ^ top |
