In addition to its Sofia services Wizz Air's Bulgarian network includes a number of summer routes to Burgas and Varna, the increasingly popular Black Sea destinations from the UK, Poland and Hungary.
London-registered low-cost carrier Wizz Air, the first no-frills carrier to enter the Bulgarian market, announced the launch of new flights from Sofia to Dortmund.
This is the airline's third route from Sofia following the already operated London and Rome services.
The first flight between Sofia and Dortmund will take off on 29 October, 2007 and will be operated 2 times a week initially.
Regular one-way fares start from EUR 24,99, including taxes and charges.
"We are delighted to be the first low-cost airline to offer direct connections between the Bulgarian capital and Dortmund," John Stephenson, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air said at a press conference in Sofia.
According to him the new route will serve the increasing demand of both leisure as well as business passengers and create a new, affordable and fast connection for the VFR traffic.
Wizz Air has been operating a base in Sofia with one aircraft and local crew since early 2006. In addition to its Sofia services Wizz Air's Bulgarian network includes a number of summer routes to Burgas and Varna, the increasingly popular Black Sea destinations from the UK, Poland and Hungary.
With the addition of the new flights, Wizz Air will have a 37% share of the low-cost carriers market in Bulgaria and 20% - among traditional air carriers.
Data of the company shows that no-frills airlines account for about 40-50% of the aviation market in Bulgaria.
The country attracted a number of low-cost carriers thanks to its accession to the European Union and fast economic growth.
